NEW DELHI: The Centre government will reinstate the concessions allotted to senior citizens for traveling using Indian railways. The benchmark age for availing of concession has been increased to 70. The new rules will abide by gender parity. It is expected that the new rules will be announced in the budget session to be started on the first of February. Until now, Ladies aged 58 get a concession of 50% while for gents above age 60, it was 40%.

The Railway stopped providing concessions to senior citizens during the pandemic to restrict nonessential travel. Before the coronavirus outbreak, more than 12 crore senior citizens were availing concessions in train fares every year.
