Railways Ministry approves increase in height of railway bridge in Vasco

The Railway Ministry has sanctioned the proposal to provide additional height to the railway overbridge near Tanya Hotel in Vasco, which will provide access to emergency vehicles to areas of Mestawada and Mangor.

Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar carried out a site inspection on Thursday along with Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Leo Rodrigues, Ward Councillor Girish Borker and others.

Speaking to reporters later, Salkar said the height of the existing railway overbridge was very low and emergency vehicles like fire brigades and ambulances could not pass through and were forced to take long cuts during disaster and emergency situation.

“When we faced difficulties during the Naptha fire at Dactolem, I was keen to get the height increased. When I became MLA, I took up this issue and after follow-ups, Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnav has approved and sanctioned our plan.”

“The railway overbridge will now be rebuilt to provide a height of 4 metres and this will allow access to various vehicles, including fire tenders, ambulances and other big vehicles” said Salkar.

MMC Chairperson Leo Rodrigues said increasing the height of the railway overbridge was the need of the hour.

“I live in Baina and this was a major hurdle for emergency vehicles catering to our area as well and this issue has been resolved because this road below the bridge is a shortcut to Baina,” said Rodrigues.
