Railways reports 59.70 MT loading in September 2023, ET Infra


New Delhi: Coal dominated the freight landscape for Railways in September 2023, with a loading of 59.70 MT, the ministry of railways said in a statement. The data comes as Railways reported an overall increase in freight loading and revenue for the month.

From April to September 2023, Railways recorded a cumulative freight loading of 758.20 MT, marking a rise over the 736.68 MT observed in the corresponding period last year. This bolstered the Railways’ earnings for the six-month span to Rs 81,697 crore, showing an upturn from the previous year’s Rs 78,991 crore.

Originating freight loading for September 2023 stood at 123.53 MT, reflecting a 6.67% increment compared to the 115.80 MT in September 2022. Concurrently, freight revenue for September reached Rs. 12,956.95 crore, a 5.06% jump from the September 2022 figure of Rs 12,332.70 crore.

Other notable commodities in the September loadings included iron ore at 14.29 MT, containers at 7.28 MT, pig iron and finished steel at 5.78 MT, cement (excluding clinker) at 6.25 MT, and clinker at 4.89 MT.

Following the Mantra, “Hungry For Cargo”, IR has made sustained efforts to improve the ease of doing business as well as improve the service delivery at competitive prices. The customer centric approach and work of Business Development Units backed up by agile policy making helped Railways towards this significant achievement.
