Following the orders from the Centre, senior IAS officer Rajiv Bansal assumed the charge of Secretary to the Government of India for the Ministry of Civil Aviation on October 1. Ahead of the new appointment, Bansal was serving as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Air India.
Rajiv Bansal, a senior IAS officer of the 1988-Batch of Nagaland cadre, has replaced the outgoing Civil Aviation Secretary Pardeep Singh Kharola. Kharola superannuated on September 30.
Throughout his career, Bansal has held several important posts. He had worked as Additional Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas; Joint Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY); Secretary, Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC); and Joint Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises.

As per a statement from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, previously, Rajiv Bansal has also held several key positions in various capacities in the Government of Nagaland.
