HEALTH is Wealth’ was the message of the day at the Full Gospel Church in Pinetown as they hosted their yearly health workshop. Under Operation Restoration Community Centre, the workshop was aimed to educate patients, particularly those who were previously on ventilators, in order for them to regain their health.

Explaining to the Highway Mail about the workshop, Pastor Rodney Sneddon said the workshop focuses on the recovery of patients, especially following the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Due to the current pandemic, many are living in fear and uncertainty, and this has a major impact on the health of people. This is why we are focusing on the after-effects which result in a depleted immune system, which causes premature deaths. In order to fulfill our goals and vision as an NPO, we can never forget that corporate social investment is an investment in individuals and communities in which they live,” he said.

The day saw church members, mostly seniors, gather at the chapel to seek knowledge about their health. The programme of the day started off with a blood pressure and diabetic check. Church members had a chance to check their health status.

Pastor Sneddon said, “This is about putting our word into action – we also have students who are doing their practicals through this.”

The Guest speaker was Rajendrie Govender who is a lecturer of cytology and virology at the Department of Biomedical Science at Mangosuthu University of Technology. Govender shared her knowledge which included scrapping health myths. She continued to highlight the importance of keeping a positive mindset when it comes to your health or well-being. She also spoke on the importance of being able to find the source of the illness so you can deal with the root of the problem instead of just blowing out the fire.

Pastor Rod extended his gratitude to the church members, who made the workshop a success, and to the honoured guests. “It is our belief that we owe a social responsibility to all South Africans, regardless of status, who should be entitled to a lifestyle expectation, and family values and professional advancement to feel part of a healthy and prosperous society. Operation Restoration South Africa is promoting this, by providing social and medical support by means of health and wellness workshops.”

Members were treated to a health goodie bag that included different medication, and a booklet.
