The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has been temporarily closed today (January 30th) due to landslide in the district of Ramban. The sudden landslide on the J&K highway has left a few hundred vehicles blocked on the road, without the means to move from somewhere, as per officials.

Mudslides and shooting stones were reported between Chanderkote and Banihal in the district which left the 270-kilometre-long highway blocked.

The officials further added that close to 300 cars and other vehicles have been left stranded on different parts of the highway. Authorities have also deployed workers and machinery to clear the area on an urgent basis.

The J&K highway is the lifeline of the Kashmir valley and is the main route which connects the Kashmir with the rest of the country. Kashmir-bound trucks laden with essential supplies as well as other vehicles pass through this highway which connects the state to the rest of the country.
