In retaliation, the police resorted to lathi-charge in which many protesters suffered injuries. Videos showed police thrashing women and protesters as the crowd went berserk. The mob blocked NH-30 and indulged in violence, following which police allegedly thrashed the protesters.

Women protesters alleged that the police lathi-charged them and manhandled them. Later on, police personnel were deployed in the area to pacify the situation and maintain the law and order situation.

“A team of cops went out to arrest the accused and locals started protesting. The mob attacked the police and somehow we managed to run away with the accused. Around 200 men came to the Bypass police station, went on a rampage, indulged in arson, and pelted stones at the police,” police officer Amit Kumar said.

The police team went to arrest the accused near the Bypass police station when the family of the accused blocked the road and started shouting slogans against them. The protesters alleged that a Sub-Inspector used to extort money from shopkeepers and threatened them to frame them in false cases of liquor consumption if they failed to do so. The police officer has denied all the allegations, saying that two people have been arrested in this regard.

According to police, the accused, Pinku Kumar, used to run a tea shop near the railway land and used to snatch the mobile phones of passengers. The Government Railway Police (GRP) had asked him to remove his shop but failed to pay attention.
