Mancherial: Road connectivity in rural parts in particular remote and tribal habitations has undergone a remarkable transformation for the past two decades. The credit goes to the ambitious Pradhana Mantri Grameena Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), conceived by the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to improve road and bridge infrastructure of villages across India, in 2000.

According to information available with authorities of Panchayat Raj, the creation of roads, bridges and culverts is being taken up in the district under the batch-1 and batch-2 of the third phase of the PMGSY at an estimated cost of Rs 73 crore. A total of 12 works of the infrastructure worth Rs 53 crore and 80 works, costing Rs 201 crore, were already under progress in the district under the second and first phases of the initiative, respectively.

“The rural parts of the district are able to grow in many aspects with better connectivity created under the scheme. Residents of the countryside can easily visit their neighboring villages and towns with the advent of road and bridge facilities. They are reaping fruits of the connectivity and can effortlessly go to surrounding habitations anytime,” Panchayat Raj executive engineer Prakash opined.
