KOCHI: Ending uncertainty over the Smart City project in Kochi, the Union government has given extension for the project until June 2024. Had the government not given extension, many of the projects undertaken by the CSML would have been faced with a crisis.
Now, the CSML will get breathing time to implement many projects which have already been started. “I had taken up the issue of extending the project with Rajiv Ranjan Singh, who is the head of urban affairs standing committee of the Parliament,” Hibi Eden, MP, said.
The CSML has already completed 20 projects in the city. “Tendering process for two more projects is on. Around 30 projects are in the implementation stage now,” Eden said. “If the Centre had not given extension, many projects like Rs 72 crore Ernakulam Market renovation and Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) housing project, the work on which had been delayed due to various reasons, would have been met with hurdles,” Eden said. tnn
