Jan 07, Colombo: The Premier Edition of FACETS Sri Lanka, the flagship event of the Sri Lanka Gem and Jewellery Association, kicked off this morning at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel premises in Colombo under the patronage of Minister of Plantation Industries and Industries, Dr. Ramesh Pathirana.



Speaking at the opening, Minister of Plantation Industries and Industries, Dr. Ramesh Pathirana thanksed all those who have protected the gems and jewellery industry as an industry during the difficult times of the global Covid epidemic and the subsequent economic crisis in the country.



“We must thank the Sri Lanka Gems and Jewellery Association (SLGJA) for organizing this exhibition after three years of silence to tell the world that our country is ready to face the economic challenges and open for business again,” Minister Pathirana said.


The Minister elaborated that among the upcoming plans of the Ministry of Industry, plans are afoot to take the gem and jewellery industry in Sri Lanka to an export revenue target of 1 billion dollars in 2023, for that purpose, to make all technology usages as well as value addition methods more effective and efficient for the promotion of the industry, and to provide the necessary facilities by the government.




Sri Lanka Gems and Jewellery Association (SLGJA) together with National Gems and Jewellery Authority and Sri Lanka Export Development Board has organized this FACETS Sri Lanka exhibition for the thirtieth time.


Showcasing the best of the gem and jewellery industry of Sri Lanka, FACETS Sri Lanka 2023 – The Premier Edition will be open from the 7th to 9th January 2023 At Cinnamon Grand Colombo, Sri Lanka.



More than 100 buyers from 20 countries will be participating in this FACETS Sri Lanka Premier Edition exhibition. In addition many more buyers from home and abroad will also be participating.


“Through this exhibition, a good export trading platform will be created for the gem and jewellery businessmen of Sri Lanka along with the reputation we have gained for sapphire and other gems in the world in the history of our gem industry which spans over 2500 years,” the Minister noted.


State Minister for Primary Industries Chamara Sampath Dasanayake, former Minister A.H.M. Fowzie, former Minister MP Vajira Abeywardena, foreign ambassadors, Secretary of the Ministry of Industry Thilaka Jayasundara, Additional Secretaries, Chairman of Gems and Jewellery Authority, Chairman of Export Development Board, Chairman of Sri Lanka Industrial Development Board and other government officials, President of SLGJA Ajward Dean, the Chairman of FACETS Sri Lanka Altaf Iqbal, and many local and foreign dignitaries attended this event.
