ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka National Gem and Jewellery Authority has introduced a system for businesses to export gems and jewellery worth up to 3,000 US dollars online, a government information department statement said.
Due to the severe forex shortage in the country, the government is implementing strategies to increase forex income.
The authority has also introduced an online sales method in order to attract more minor and medium scale exporters to the gem and jewelller trade, the statement said.
The system was launched on September 08 in Galle.
Any exporter who has fulfilled the basic requirements of Sri Lanka Customs through the postal offices can have access to the facility to sell their products through the Gem and Jewellery Authority website. (Colombo/Sep09/2022)
