Stats reveal healthcare stresses in Western Australia

New figures from the Western Australia Department of Health have found over 300 expecting mothers were forced to travel hundreds of kilometres to give birth last year due to a severe shortage of midwives.

The figures presented to parliament reveal 311 mothers, most of them from Perth, had been placed on maternity bypass – a procedure that occurs when the facility reaches capacity.
