Stitchworks Showcases Textiles Technique – About Manchester

[ad_1]

“STITCHWORKS”, the latest exhibition at the Astley Cheetham Art Gallery, Stalybridge, opens on Saturday, June 19.

Inspired by both the natural world and the built landscape it has been created by Textiles Connections (formerly the Glossop and District Embroiderers’ Guild), whose members live across Tameside and Glossop, and features a variety of techniques and materials.

Also included in the exhibition are works by Cheshire-based artist Nikki Parmenter, a member of the group who specialises in mixed-media textile-based work.

Her highly embellished creations draw on the myths and legends of ancient societies and the visual symbols which represented the things that were important to them.

Cllr Leanne Feeley, Tameside Council’s executive member with responsibility for culture, said: “ ‘Stitchworks’ amply demonstrates the wealth of creative talent we have among the residents of the borough.

“The innovative use of materials and techniques, and the inspiration taken from the world around us, combine to create a highly engaging exhibition which is well worth a visit.”

The Astley Cheetham Gallery, which is above the library on Trinity Street, has a changing programme of exhibitions throughout the year. “Stitchworks” continues until September 25 and admission is free.
