TCHTA encourages local businesses to take advantage of supercharged training

The Turks & Caicos Hotel and Tourism Association (TCHTA) has partnered with the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association Education Foundation (CHTAEF) to bring the Foundation’s signature “Caribbean Supercharged Service” training series to the Turks and Caicos Islands this fall.

Since launching in-person training in 2018, the Education Foundation strives to support the changing landscape of the sector and re-energize teams to deliver stellar service in their organisations and businesses. The Education Foundation has developed a menu of training in its continued commitment to expand hospitality training and scholarship support to the region. To date, traditional hospitality employees have been joined by entrepreneurs offering unique cultural experiences; tour guides, taxi drivers, beach bar owners, private health care staff and watersports specialists among others in Aruba, Barbados, Grenada, St. Lucia and many other Caribbean destinations.

This October, more than 600 hospitality employees in Turks and Caicos will be taken through the Supercharged Service programmaking it the largest destinationtraining partnership to date. Anticipation builds as the TCHTA counts down the days to the arrival of regional trainers Louise John and Suzanne Shillingford-Brooks and finalizes on-the-ground logistics for the high-energy, dynamic sessions.

TCHTA CEO, Stacy Cox, shares that while mostof the registered participants are connected toresorts and villas, the association is encouraging businesses in the public and private sectors to take advantage of this game-changing opportunity, “We are calling out to the public and private business communities to move quickly and register their team members for the remaining seats.”

“There is a tendency to hear the word ‘hospitality’ and to think immediately of tourism. Whilethe destination is tourism-driven, hospitality is everyone’s business, and heartfelt customer service is at the core of building sustainability,’ she said.

Cox continued, “This is a golden opportunity, especially for organisations and businesses with no in-house training. Investing in your team can only mean good things and shows employees they are valued. There is no business here that cannot benefit from this opportunity, and we are looking forward to getting them registered.”

The training sessions will carry on through November, culminating in a grand certificate ceremony on November 15th. The timing is significant, as the association marks 30 years as an organisation and the country is seeing overwhelming success, recently being named the top trending destination for fall travel by industry giant, TripAdvisor. The TCHTA says this is an optimal time to invest in employees and give them the tools needed for success in service.

One of the TCHTA’s very own Young Leaders, Ms. Karen King, recently received a scholarship from the Education Foundation. The Foundation’s volunteer trustees remain focused on their primary mission to ensure continued education and training programmes for Caribbean nationals within the Hospitality & Tourism industry. To date, over USD$ 2million has been invested in Caribbean people.

The upcoming training sessions promise to be interactive, empowering, and “supercharged” by way of Louise and Suzanne’s high-energy style. These Caribbean trainers are the dynamic duo that makes this training series second-to-none, fueled by their passion to uplift participants and cultivate “sparkling professionals” through their sessions.

“Heartfelt Guest Care”, “Happy Housekeepers”, “Realistic Leadership”, and “007 Secret Care Agents”are a few of the captivating sessions planned, aptly named to convey the fun, and refreshing approach the Supercharged Service series delivers.

“We jumped at the opportunity to bring this training to Turks and Caicos without hesitation, and it is an ideal addition to our association’s 30th-anniversary initiatives. Hospitality is our country’s bread and butter, and we have been blessed to see record-breaking numbers, increased attention, and multiple destination awards at a time when many other countries in the region are still recovering from the fallout of border closures,” said Trevor Musgrove, President of the TCHTA.

“We have seen some great news recently with the indication that Caribbean tourism jobsare poised to grow by an average of 3.3%. Hospitality is too important to our country to leave its success and viability to chance, so we must be proactive in providing opportunities to employees for re-tooling and up-skilling so they can represent our destination with pride.While we’re proud to be number one, maintaining that position calls for intentional action.
