tcs: TCS asks employees to return to office five days a week; may end work-from-home from October

Multiple teams across Tata Consultancy Services have been informally told to return to office for five days of the week, starting October 1, according to sources in the know. While this is not a formal organisation-wide mandate so far, sources said that on an individual basis, the company has been pushing for more employees to return to work.

“As we are in the silent period at the moment, we will not be able to comment on your query,” a company spokesperson said in response to queries. TCS will flag off second quarter earnings for the IT sector with results on October 11.

An increasing number of IT majors have been advocating for employees to return to office more often while retaining the hybrid work flexibility. Companies have cited productivity concerns as well as greater team bonding initiatives that can be facilitated in office as the reason for return to work. Most companies are however are struggling to get employees to return to office.

“The mandate announced in September 2022, for employees to come to office three days of the week, remains in place. No organization-wide communication has been issued so far,” said a source who did not wish to be identified. ET could not independently verify if eventually all employees are expected to receive the same 5-day mandate or if the current set of mandates are based on requests from specific clients.
