The government is ready to look into the just demands of the automobile industry: Secretary

New Delhi, Sep 15 (PTI) The government on Thursday assured the auto industry that it is ready to meet their demands that are just and in line with government policy.

Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Anurag Jain, while addressing the annual meeting of SIAM, an association of automobile manufacturers, said that the government is ready to consider the demands of the automobile industry in every way.

Jain said, “The government is ready to listen to you. Please come to us and tell us your problems. Trust me if your demands are justified, we will grow with you at the same speed.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had also asked the industry a few days ago that why they are hesitant to invest in manufacturing while foreign investors are showing their trust in India.

The DPIIT Secretary said that both the government and the industry will have to work together to deal with the twin challenges of slowdown and uncertain geopolitical situation in the western world.

At the same time, there is an opportunity and a ray of hope. With this changing geopolitical situation and changing supply chain structure, investment decisions are being made around the world. The next 12 to 24 months are going to be very important for investment.

He said that in such a situation, the government is discussing the steps it can take, but the role of the industry is far more important. “The industry has to ensure that investment decisions are taken in a favorable manner and investment flows into the country,” he said.
