TS Fiona: Sea Ports and Airports remain closed in USVI

Sea ports and airports in St Croix and St Thomas will remain closed today as the US Virgin Islands is under a Tropical Storm warning.

In an update on Tropical Storm Fiona this morning, Director of VI Territory Emergency Management Agency, Daryl Jaschen, said JetBlue cancelled flights into the territory today.

While Fiona is moving away from the island, Jaschen warned that they are flash flood warnings are in effect until at least 12.30 pm.

He said rainfall is expected to reach as much as 10 inches of rain in St Croix over the next couple of days.

The USVI has experienced several electricity outages due to the weather with the hospital running on generators.

Andy Smith, the CEO of the Water and Power Authority (WAPA), said they received 697 outage reports in St Croix last night.

He said restoration efforts are underway today but there are challenges with the supply of propane in St Croix due to the weather.
