Uttar Pradesh (UP) plans to build a sprawling Olympic Park near the upcoming Noida International Airport. This move follows the recent announcement by the central government expressing its intention to bid for hosting the world’s largest sporting event in 2036.

As per a TOI report, spanning approximately 1,100 acres, the Olympic Park is slated to take shape in Sector 22 of the Yamuna Expressway, as outlined in the 2041 Master Plan.

The centerpiece of this ambitious project is the Olympic City, which will occupy a substantial 965-acre portion of the park. It will house a remarkable 29 arenas dedicated to various Olympic sports. Furthermore, the development envisions the inclusion of sports clubs, training and coaching facilities, convention centers, malls, and theme parks. Another crucial component is the proposed Olympic Village, spread across 130 acres, which is set to accommodate 5,000 housing units, primarily consisting of 3 and 4-BHK flats.

These residential units are specifically designed to cater to participants and individuals associated with sporting events. While officials acknowledge that the Olympic Park’s development timeline might not align with a potential 2036 Olympic bid, they emphasize that the facility will rank among the best globally when completed.

Arun Vir Singh, CEO of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority, told TOI, “The planning of this park has been done with a belief that it will become the main sports arena should India get a chance to host the Olympics or any other international sports event beyond 2041. What will set it apart from the world-class stadiums in Delhi is the sports cluster with 29 stadiums.”

Although the park’s construction is anticipated to span several years, a strategic and phased approach will be adopted to ensure efficiency and economic viability. The CEO emphasized the potential role of a public-private partnership (PPP) model in the development of this world-class sports facility. The UP government has already outlined numerous significant projects centered around the Yamuna Expressway region, with the upcoming airport in Jewar at the heart of these initiatives. These projects encompass the establishment of a Film City, as well as industrial manufacturing clusters for toys, apparel, and medical devices, further underscoring UP’s commitment to enhancing its infrastructure and global standing.
