The to and fro on how to vaccinate a country of more than a billion people has hopefully ended after the Centre recently issued new guidelines. The world’s biggest vaccination exercise’s progress was full of roadblocks until now. The Supreme Court’s intervention has helped clarify contentious issues between the Centre and the states.
On June 7, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a centralised Covid-19 vaccine policy in his address to the nation. The Centre will now provide free vaccines for everyone above the age of 18. It will also handle the 25% vaccination work that was allotted to the states. This will be implemented from June 21. The states and the Centre will now work according to the new guidelines.
