Vande Bharat to offer cheaper option than air travel to Delhi

NEW DELHI: On Monday night, the IRCTC website wasn’t showing Vande Bharat as one of the Rani Kamlapati-New Delhi options.

The indigenously-built Vande Bharat Express reached a maximum speed of 180 kmph during tests but is limited to 130 kmph due to safety concerns.

Even at the reduced speed, it will still be able to complete the journey in around seven and a half hours, giving passengers an option cheaper than air travel.

The fully air-conditioned train has 16 coaches with GPS-based infotainment, CCTV surveillance, Wi-Fi, and bio vacuum toilets. It’s an engine-less self-propelled train that allows for faster acceleration and deceleration and is made of a stainless-steel car body.
