Vistadome Coach Reports Minimal Occupancy During Its Formal Run, ET Infra

RANCHI: The vistadome coach of the Ranchi-New Giridih special express received lukewarm response from passengers as the train embarked on its first formal run from Ranchi railway station from platform number 1 on Wednesday morning.

Ranchi MP Sanjay Seth and local MLA C P Singh flagged off the train from Ranchi railway station at 6 am. However, the vistadome coach, which has 40 seats, reported occupancy in just four. The two air-conditioned chair car coaches also reported occupancies less than 40%.

Officials at the Ranchi railway division of the South Eastern Railways (SER), however, remained optimistic of higher occupancy in the coming weeks.

“The train will considerably reduce travel time from Ranchi to Hazaribagh town and Koderma and will offer a faster way of transport once it begins operations on its original route of Tantisilwai-Mesra-Barkakana route,” a senior official in the division told TOI, requesting anonymity.

Notably, the tickets of the vistadome coach is priced at Rs 1,260 from Ranchi to New Giridih while tickets to the AC chair car have been priced at Rs 465 and the general second sitting tickets are priced at Rs 130 from Ranchi to New Giridih. Seth told the media that he is actively pursuing Vande Bharat Express trains from Ranchi railway station to Howrah and Varanasi.

“Given Jharkhand’s natural beauty, vistadome coaches are surely going to attract passengers in the coming days. I will also urge Union railways minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to consider starting vistadome coaches in other trains which originate from the state,” he said.
