Wales’ summer rugby Tests are among sporting events in the country set to benefit from further easing of Covid-19 lockdown restrictions by the Welsh Government.

Outdoor events with up to 10,000 people will be able to resume in Wales from Monday.

Larger organised events, such as concerts, football matches and sporting activities, will recommence for up to 4,000 people standing and 10,000 people seated.

First Minister Mark Drakeford said: “The risk of infection is significantly less outdoors than it is indoors. This is why we are phasing in the changes in this three-week cycle.

“This will allow more people to enjoy events outdoors and take advantage of the Welsh summer, while we continue to roll out the vaccination programme to all adults.”

Six Nations champions Wales have three games scheduled at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium next month, hosting Canada before facing back-to-back games against Argentina.

Wayne Pivac’s team have not played in front of a crowd on home soil since February last year, when they were beaten by Six Nations opponents France.

There will also now be an opportunity for fans to watch the next generation of rugby talent, as Cardiff Arms Park hosts the rescheduled U20s Six Nations tournament between June 19 and July 13.

England’s cricketers, meanwhile, play Pakistan in a one-day international at Cardiff’s Sophia Gardens on July 8, and latest developments will also mean crowds for the start of cricket’s new Hundred competition in Wales.

Recent pilot test events saw small attendances allowed for home play-off home games involving Swansea City and Newport County, and a crowd of 6,500 is expected for Wales’ final pre-Euro 2020 fixture against Albania at Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday.
