Week of Welcome events herald start of Fall 2022 semester systemwide – WSU Insider

August marks the beginning of a new semester of classes and activities across the Washington State University system.

Kicking off the proceedings will be a host of Week of Welcome events beginning Aug. 13 and running through the start of the academic year.

Each campus boasts an array of events and activities for new and returning students, their families and the Cougar community at-large:

Pullman

Week of Welcome on the WSU Pullman campus begins Aug. 13 with the start of a week of free fitness classes offered by University Recreation as well as daily open houses at the Brelsford WSU Visitor Center presented by BECU.

On Aug. 16, Terrell Mall will host the Student Employment Fair beginning at 1 p.m. The following day at 6:30 p.m., Gesa Field will host the Week of Welcome Pep Rally and New Coug photo.

WSU Pullman will also celebrate the inauguration of its first campus chancellor with a series of events, including an inauguration celebration at 4 p.m. Aug. 18.  On Aug. 19, University Convocation will take place at 10 a.m. and will be followed by the All-Campus Picnic and Resource Fair on Cougar Way.

Spokane

WSU Spokane’s Week of Welcome activities kick off with WSU Health Sciences Campus Orientation Aug. 18. The following day, White Coat Ceremonies for the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and the College of Medicine will take place at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.

And on Aug. 23, the WSU Spokane Student Entertainment Board will host the campus barbecue outside the Student Academic Center from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Tri-Cities

WSU Tri-Cities’ Week of Welcome takes place from Aug. 22-26 and will include fun events like a daily escape room put on by the MOSAIC Center for Student Inclusion.

On Aug. 23, the Tri-Cities campus will host an engagement fair from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. where Cougs can learn more about different student groups and ways to get involved on campus. Counseling Services will be putting on a Coug Ice Cream Social beginning at noon on Aug. 24.

Both the Career Center and the TRIO Student Services Program will also be hosting open houses during Week of Welcome, from 3-5 p.m. Aug. 25 and 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Aug. 26, respectively.

Vancouver

On the first day of the Fall 2022 semester, WSU Vancouver students can sign up for shifts waving the WSU flag to welcome back their fellow classmates between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.  

On Aug. 26, the WSU Vancouver campus will screen “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness on the lawn of between undergraduate and multimedia classroom buildings beginning at 8 p.m. If the weather is uncooperative, the proceedings will be moved inside Firstenburg Student Commons.

Everett

Week of Welcome events at WSU Everett begin Aug. 22 with a free grab-n-go breakfast and soda bar inside Floyd Commons beginning at 7:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, Aug. 24, Floyd Commons will host an Involvement Fair from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.

On Friday, Aug. 26, the Everett Campus Picnic featuring free food, music and outdoor games will take place on Flag Lane from 11 .m.-1 p.m.

WSU Everett’s Week of Welcome website will be updated with additional events in the near future.

Global Campus

WSU Global Campus staff will be hosting an array of virtual events between Aug. 15 and 19.

Each of the first four events beginnings at 7 p.m., while Friday’s Cougs Coffee Hour begins at noon.
