Synopsis
MMLPs, which will be way bigger than logistics and industrial parks developed by private players, can potentially help manufacturers build a strong supply chain and achieve cost efficiencies. But these facilities will have to be tech-enabled to provide supply-chain visibility and predictability.
At the policy level, multi-modal logistics parks (MMLPs) have become the most important part of the solution to India’s high logistics costs. At around 13%-14% of the gross domestic product (GDP), India’s logistics costs are smack of supply-chain inefficiencies. The Centre is indeed pushing the pedal on the development of MMLPs, which will serve as one-stop hubs for consolidation and distribution of cargo, facilitating easy and fast line-haul
