Xlinks Morocco project could throw Britain a renewable energy lifeline | Business

When Sir Dave Lewis stood down from Tesco in 2020 after six years in charge of Britain’s biggest supermarket, he wasn’t sure what to do next. “The idea was to take a year off to reflect on: where did I want to try and make a contribution? Where did I want to spend my time?”

A fortuitous introduction to Simon Morrish, the serial entrepreneur, yielded the unexpected answer: building a 2,400-mile power link from Morocco to Britain.

“During the lockdown, he and I spoke a lot,” Lewis said. “We went for walks in Richmond Park, he introduced me to the idea. I didn’t know anything at all about energy at that point. I was completely captivated by the idea.”
