HYDERABAD: As part of MMTS phase-2 extension, the South Central Railway (SCR) will upgrade railway station serving Yadadri as part of the Centre’s Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS).

SCR general manager Arun Kumar Jain inspected the Raigir railway station, which serves as Yadadri temple town station, and took stock of additional infrastructural facilities required for the station.

Tenders for the station redevelopment project, as part of ABSS, have already been awarded. The works include construction of cover platforms, facade development and station building improvement, among others. Jain said extension of MMTS as well as Yadadri station development are important projects that have been taken up by the railways.

“Completion of both the works will give a major fillip to this important temple town station by providing enhanced passenger services and higher train connectivity to rail passengers,” Jain said.

The MMTS phase-2 extension from Ghatkesar to Yadadri was sanctioned in 2016-17 at an estimated cost of 330 crore. Officials said the project involved laying of additional line between Ghatkesar to Yadadri for a distance of 33 km apart from the existing two lines.

The project also includes the provision of additional infrastructural facilities at stations and yards at Ghatkesar, Bibinagar, Bhongir and Yadadri. The project will be executed by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited and was originally planned as a joint venture between railways and the Telangana government.

The revised estimate for the project is 430 crore.
