2 main roads used for Amarnath Yatra entrusted to BRO

After Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2022 was organized well, the administration of Jammu and Kashmir is taking steps to provide better facilities to the pilgrims. Under this initiative, the Jammu and Kashmir government has handed over two important roads leading to the Amarnath cave to the Border Roads Organization (BRO) and issued instructions for their construction and repair.

It is worth noting that the connecting roads to Amarnath cave pass through Pahalgam and Sonmarg mountains, which are accessible only on foot. According to Rashid Khan, a labourer working during the Amarnath Yatra, this decision of the authorities will make the journey of those traveling on these routes easier. He said that the repair of these roads was very necessary and with this decision of the authorities, they will be better now.

These two main roads include the Chandanwari-Sheshnag-Panchatrni and Sonmarg roads in the Pahalgam region from Baltal to Amarnath cave and Ranga to Baltal which will be constructed and repaired by BRO.

Earlier, the construction and maintenance of these roads were being carried out by the Public Works Department and the Tourism Department. In this regard, the Public Works Department has issued an order directing the BRO to seek permission from the Forest Department, wherever necessary, for the construction and repair of these roads. In the decree, the BRO has been asked to keep in view the decisions of the Supreme Court and the High Court.

All the construction projects of these roads should be started after getting approval from the concerned high-level committee. The decree further states that there should be no disturbance in the construction and repair of National Highway 501 from the said roads. It further said that the Public Works and Tourism
