Srinagar, Oct 26: Stating that frequent wet weather conditions remained an impediment to road upgradation in the valley, the Jammu and Kashmir Roads and Buildings (R&B) department’s officials on Tuesday stated that they have macadamized, resurfaced more than 1300 KMs of road stretches, falling under their domain.

According to Chief Engineer Kashmir R&B, Rafiq Ahmad Rafiq, earlier frequent rainy weather had slowed down the speed of road improvement work in the valley earlier, but nevertheless, they have managed to upgrade more than 90 percent of the road length in the valley of their estimated target.

“As of now we have resurfaced around 90 percent of valley roads falling under our domain, and over the past few years we have kept the window open and will continue to remain open this season as well”, he said.

He said that if there is any patchwork or any repairs for roads, same will be done without waiting for next summer season to come, saying that they have kept the window open for repairs, however, he underlined that any work will be taken up after evaluating the surface temperature and day temperature.

“Earlier the repair or resurface window used to close as soon as the temperature used to go down, but since the past few years the window has been open”, he added.

CE Kashmir R&B went on to say that they are taking up road improvement work mostly at night, however, are also doing that during the day in some areas.

“Our personnel and machinery are on the ground, and road upgradation work is being done during night hours, although in many areas work is being done during the day because there is less traffic,” he said.
