Bhopal: Around 100 proposals are in the pipeline for repair and maintenance of city roads. Time is running out for the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) as any delay would lead into the monsoon season.
One of the largest tenders pending for the taking is annual tender for (on empanelment basis) construction or maintenance of road at various places by asphalting. It covers all of BMC zones from 1 to 19. Last year heavy monsoon delayed repair of roads after raw material could not be sources for almost 4 weeks.
BMC is responsible for repair and maintenance of almost 1500 km of roads in the state capital. Some of the other agencies are PWD and NHAI. Interior roads along with BRTS corridor are under the BMC. The civic body also maintains Boat Club and VIP road.
“The time allowed for the carrying out the work, shall be strictly observed. It would come into effect two weeks after contract is inked,” said BMC official. The work shall be completed in stipulated period. The timeline includes one-eighth of the whole work would be completed before one quarter of the 12 month duration. 3/8 of the work before 50% of time has elapsed.
Majority of main roads in the state capital need repair. Most of the repair is linked to poor relaying of roads owing to sewage or water pipeline projects carried out in various locations of the city.
PWD is another agency which is entrusted with road development.
According to reports Kolar main road would be converted into a six lanes. The proposal also entails construction of a new flyover near Sarva dharm colony. The coverage of the new road would ease traffic along Kolar road to Bairagarh Chichli.
