CLSA’s moved to shore up its top ranks, appointing equities sales desk head Jamies McIntosh as its new country head for Australia.

McIntosh, who joined CLSA as head of equity sales for Australia five years ago, had been filling the country head role on an interim basis since May, when Angus McGeoch left to join Barrenjoey.

The CITIC Securities-owned firm’s decision to promote a new country head from within was seen internally as a vote of confidence in its current strategy.

The broker has a team of 26 research analysts covering more than 150 stocks, which it wants to get to more than 200, and 15 people in its sales and trading team once MA Moelis’ Sam Clark joins later this month to lead small-cap sales.

McIntosh’s promotion coincided with a handful of other senior appointments.

CLSA’s local COO Simon Hempel was elevated to global COO, while the firm also tapped two new co-heads of investment banking. The co-heads were Jeremy D’Sylva, who leads CLSA’s equity capital markets unit, and local M&A spearhead Eric Lalauze.
