Ellore drives local manufacturing through denim addition

Australian label Ellore has added a Melbourne-made high-waisted wide leg jean to its Basics X collection this month, as it continues to drive local manufacturing.

Launched by duo Ebany Mclees and Olivia O’Neill in 2021, the pair said Ellore utilises local manufacturing for ethical and sustainable reasons.

The duo said they have strived to secure contracts with the reportedly limited number of on-shore manufacturers left in Australia. They said this includes one of the last denim manufacturers in Melbourne that produced Ellore’s new wide leg denim jean.

“Our denim makers are committed to the ethical production of high-quality denim clothing, with more than 25 years of denim expertise enriching every piece,” O’Neill said. She also noted that the manufacturer is accredited by Ethical Clothing Australia.

Speaking on Ellore’s local manufacturing, Mclees said that her and O’Neill aim to ensure all its pieces are made responsibly across its entire supply chain.

“Ellore boasts wardrobe staples which are a responsible alternative to the fast fashion world and the negative impacts it brings with it, including promoting the throwaway culture, excessive consumerism,” Mclees said.

“We are determined in steering clear of making clothes which are disposable commodities which end up in landfills around the world. We also recycle all fabric off cuts during production which gets turned into new textile pieces, which also reduces our waste to landfill.”

Mclees added that, through sourcing Australian-made products, Ellore supports the economy “at every level”

“It is also reassuring to know that Australia has some of the world’s strictest labour, business, safety and quality control standards,” Mclees said. “Australia has a phenomenal reputation for manufacturing the highest quality of clothing in the world, and we wanted to be a part of it and provide our customers with the best.”

The pair said they saw a gap in the market for affordable, accessible Australian made clothing, which led the pair to launching their own brand.

Ellore’s latest collection of Basics was inspired by the tees and jeans Mclees and O’Neill couldn’t access.

“If you’re anything like us, you’re always on the hunt for good quality basics,” Mclees said. “Based on clean and simple but high-quality staples, we were excited to launch our version of basics. Bringing the perfect pair of jeans to fruition, inspired by the 90s high-rise denim and our everyday tee, as well as our baby tee.

“We are so excited for the future of ELLORE and for what’s to come. We plan to continue to build on our current bestselling fleece wear range, whilst building out the perfect ‘capsule’ wardrobe.”
