Bengaluru: Capella Educore, an education specialist platform started and managed by JV Ventures, has received an equity commitment of $200 million from Alta Capital. The fresh funds will help Capella Educore build a portfolio of around $550 million over the next three years.

The portfolio, which currently comprises 13 schools across South and West India, will look to add more than 15 schools over the next three years, with an eventual target to list as an infrastructure investment trust (InvIT), people familiar with the matter said.

“Capella Educore has institutionalised the K-12 segment in India and is now looking to scale up further to tap the growing opportunity in the market. It is essentially to help mid-level school operators go asset-light by doing the sale and leaseback of the asset so they can focus on their core job of imparting education,” said one of the persons cited above. Standalone schools that are looking to join a larger network are also part of the company’s strategy.

Capella Educore plans to focus on mid-income fee segment in the metros and state capitals in West and South India.
