14 Projects Planned In Spiti Sub-division Get Centre’s Nod, Infra News, ET Infra

SHIMLA: Under the Vibrant Village Programme 14 projects, amounting Rs 3.87 crore, have been approved for the Spiti sub-division for FY 2023-24.

The central government has started this programme to provide basic infrastructure to the border areas and to promote culture and prevent migration of people. The Spiti administration had proposed projects for 20 villages, out of these, 14 were approved in the first phase.

Additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Rahul Jain said 14 projects had been approved and instructions were given to the departments concerned to complete the formalities. He said special attention would be paid to completing the projects within the stipulated time frame. Currently, cable-car projects worth Rs 3.87 crore have been approved, Jain added.

Lahaul-Spiti MLA Ravi Thakur said earlier the Border Area Development Programme used to run in Spiti, and in its place the central government had now started the Vibrant Village programme.

He said projects under this programme were pending for a long time and he had raised the matter before the chief minister and the Himachal Pradesh governor.

The legislator said by maximising facilities in Spiti, which is adjacent to China, migration of people could be stopped. It will also help in boosting the economy of the people, he added.

In the first phase, the Centre has approved construction of a cafeteria and toilet and installation of 10 street lights near the post office in Hikkim at a cost of Rs 60 lakh; construction of three pavilions in the Hikkim area at a cost of Rs 25 lakh; community hall and CGI roof construction work at Hal village at a cost of Rs 12 lakh; constructing a traditional style gate at Hal village at a cost of Rs 10 lakh; community building at Kaurik village at a cost of Rs 45 lakh.
