To celebrate Europe Day in Kolkata, a three-day event has been organised by European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC), starting Monday. The inaugural day saw several dignitaries participating in the event. This year, the Consulat Général of France, Alliance Française du Bengale, Consolato Generale Italy in Kolkata, the German Consulate General Kolkata and Goethe-Institute / Max Mueller Bhavan Kolkata joined hands to present three films from France, Germany and Italy. While Alexis Michalik’s Cyrano, My Love was screened on Monday, Undine, a film by Christian Petzold was screened on Tuesday. The Start Up, a film by Alessandro D’Alatri has been scheduled for Tuesday.
“I belong to a generation that has not seen war in Europe. But the present crisis in Europe has brought back the dark days of World War II and because of that it is even more important that we have such get-togethers. It shows we are still together no matter how difficult the situation is,” said Nicolas Facino, Director, Alliance Française du Bengale.
