DIBRUGARH: As the installation works for the instrument landing system (ILS) project nears completion, the Dibrugarh Airport is all set to achieve a major milestone.
Dibrugarh Airport authorities on Sunday said the installation work of the glide path and localizer components of the ILS has been successfully carried out by a team of highly skilled technicians and engineers marking a significant step forward in enhancing the airport’s navigational capabilities and ensuring safer landings for aircraft.
“The state-of-the-art ILS project at Dibrugarh Airport is nearing completion with the installation of glide path and localizer. Once the ILS project is fully operational it will significantly enhance the airport’s operational capabilities. Pilots will have access to highly accurate and reliable navigation aids, which will increase their confidence and efficiency during challenging landing scenarios,” an airport official said on Sunday.
The ILS is a critical aviation system that aids pilots in landing safely, especially during adverse weather conditions such as fog, low visibility or night-time operations. It provides precise guidance to aircraft, enabling them to align with the runway and make accurate landings. The glide path, also known as the vertical component of the ILS, assists pilots in maintaining the correct descent angle towards the runway.
Simultaneously, the localizer, or the horizontal component of the ILS, enables pilots to align the aircraft with the centreline of the runway accurately.
The Dibrugarh Airport, located at Mohabari, 15 km away from Dibrugarh town, serves as a vital gateway for domestic flights and the completion of the ILS project will significantly enhance its operational efficiency and safety standards, further bolstering its reputation as a key aviation hub in the region.
