NAGPUR: The AI-Engineering Services Limited (AIESL) completed the C check of the first foreign aircraft that was taken in at its maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) depot at Mihan-SEZ. As it is scheduled to fly off on Sunday, another aircraft of the Kuwait Airways would reach the MRO within one and half hours, said an official.

The AIESL MRO is slated to service four aircraft in all of the Kuwait Airways.

As Kuwait Airways’ B-777 was taken in at the MRO over 15 days ago, it marked beginning of the facility getting foreign orders. As it is located in SEZ, the MRO has to generate net earnings in foreign exchange. To meet the mandate, the MRO, which prior to this catered to Air India only, charged in dollars though it services domestic aircraft. With Kuwait Airways planes reaching the MRO, AIESEL has actually begun to cater to foreign airlines from its MRO at Nagpur.

According to an official, the work was done within the stipulated timeframe and the customer is satisfied with it.

“Our team’s professionalism and expertise have enabled us to deliver quality maintenance services resulting in completion of the work in committed timeframe. The aircraft is now ready for redelivery,” reads a note shared by a company’s senior official.

On Sunday, the aircraft will be towed out of the MRO at Mihan till the runway. Since there is no taxiway connecting the MRO, aircraft have to be towed till the MRO, which is a high-security exercise. “After it exits, another aircraft would be towed inside the MRO within one and half hours,” said an official.

The AIESL MRO at Nagpur is the first industry in the aviation sector to come up in the city. This was followed by other players including those into aircraft maintenance as well as component manufacturing.
