VIJAYAWADA: The ministry of civil aviation has discontinued air cargo at Vijayawada and Tirupati airports based on the decision of Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) to discontinue Common User Domestic Air Cargo Terminal (CUDCT) at all airports.

Minister of state in the ministry of civil aviation Gen VK Singh in reply to the questions raised by YSRCP MP V Vijaya Sai Reddy in Rajya Sabha on Monday stated that outbound domestic air cargo operations in Tirupati have been discontinued on the request of Air Cargo Regulated Agent at the Tirupati airport.

The minister stated that Vijayawada and Tirupati airports have been requested by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) to submit a proposal for self-handling by M/s InterGlobe Aviation Limited (Indigo). The ministry permitted self-handling of shrimp movement from the existing cargo terminal. Blood samples of critical cases and important examination material are also permitted from the cargo terminal.

Meanwhile, all cargo operations are going on at Visakhapatnam airport, the minister in his reply, stated.

On the other hand, the civil aviation ministry accorded in-principle approval to develop Bhogapuram airport as greenfield airport.
