Airport authority to acquire 7.6-acre land for parking facility at Dabolim, ET Infra

VASCO: South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha, who is also the chairman of the Dabolim airport advisory committee, said that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) will acquire 7.6-acre land to create an additional parking facility for vehicles at the airport.

“AAI will acquire land belonging to the comunidade authority,” Sardinha said, adding that the multi-level car parking (MLCP) project that is lying unused will be made partially operational.

He was speaking to reporters after attending the airport advisory committee meeting on Wednesday.

Airport director S V T Dhanamjaya Rao said that, during the meeting, ways to improve the image of the Dabolim airport were discussed.

“We discussed the various facilities required to improve the airport. Dabolim airport is ready to receive more flights this season. The AAI is set to welcome the upcoming season,” he said.

On the upcoming tourist season, Sardinha said, “Whatever changes people expected at the Dabolim airport have been done. We are always safeguarding the interests of the airport.”

He also called for the Centre’s support in providing facilities to passengers, including reducing landing charges to keep the airport operational.

Voicing his opposition to the ‘One Nation, One Election’ concept, Sardinha said, “BJP wants to have a federal government, where it will divide powers between the central government and the state government.”

Sardinha strongly criticised the demolition of a house at Verna. “The comunidade body should have acted on humanitarian grounds and avoided demolishing the house during the rains. I will advise the comunidade bodies not to allow any illegalities on their land,” said Sardinha.

The South Goa MP also expressed his desire to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha election on the Congress ticket.

“This is going to be my last election. I have a desire to re-contest the Lok Sabha election. It is up to the party high command to give me a ticket or not,” said Sardinha.
