Anti-plastic campaign by SWR Mysuru division – Mysuru Today

Mysuru, April 7:- The government of Karnataka has banned the use of plastic carry bags, plastic banners, plastic cups, plastic plates, plastic flags, plastic spoons, plastic sheets and including the above items made up of thermocol at railway premises and trains.

A drive was conducted Tuesday (April 6) by the officials of the Mysuru division of South Western Railway (SWR) at Mysuru Railway Station highlighting the consequences of plastic use.

During the day-long campaign, the passengers were screened for carrying plastics inside station premises and on board trains and were counselled regarding harmful effects of the use of plastic and discipline to be followed for non-use of plastics with specific attention on plastic carry bags.

As part of the campaign, a Nukkad Natak was also conducted during the departure of trains towards Mayiladuthurai and Tirupati by Bharath Scouts and Guides, Railways on plastic use.

Devasahayam, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Mysuru; Vijaya, Assistant Environment Officer, Karnataka Pollution Control Board and other senior officials from SWR Mysuru division participated in the day-long campaign.

Devasahayam explained the various programmes the Mysuru division has planned in the next two months and expressed the confidence that a sustained campaign would bring about perceptible change on the ground.

He further stated that the frontline staff of the SWR have been made responsible for the implementation of the ban as mandated by the National Green Tribunal (NGT).

Carrying of plastic bags and plastic items inside station premises and trains will not be allowed and a fine may also be imposed on violation of government orders. (MR)
