Automobile Fatalities Rise in the U.S.

[ad_1]

Automobile fatalities continue to drop around the world.

And road death numbers are still falling everywhere —  it seems — but in the United States.

Last year nearly 43,000 people died on American roads, but this year that number is rising. One explanation is that while it may be safer to be inside a car, more deaths are occuring outside the car with a huge jump in pedestrian and cyclist deaths.

At the same time, vehicles in the U.S. have grown in size and weight, and few states have actually lowered the speed limit.

One solution is narrowing the width of certain roads and highways and widening bike lanes so that drivers might just drive a little slower.
