Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee to provide insurance to devotees in case of any accident

Dehradun: The Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) announced that an insurance of one lakh rupees will be provided to a devotee in case of any kind of accident that happens with him/her on the temple premises of Chardham in Uttarakhand.
The Char Dham Yatra resumed on May 3, 2022.
Over 100 people have been killed ever since the Char Dham Yatra resumed this year.

A huge influx of devotees has been reported for the Char Dham Yatra this year. The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has been deployed on Kedarnath temple premises for security and crowd management.

According to the data available, over 90 Char Dham devotees died in 2019, 102 in 2018, and 112 in 2017.

In a very unfortunate incident, around 25 people were killed after a Char Dham yatra bus carrying 28 pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh fell into a gorge near Damta in Uttarkashi district.

The Kedarnath temple was opened on May 6 and over 1.30 lakh pilgrims have already visited the temple. The Char Dham yatra resumed after a 2-year gap due to the COVID pandemic and as a result Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath have been witnessing unprecedented rush of pilgrims this year.

As per the official figures, 6,57,547 pilgrims visited Badrinath Dham, 6,33,548 pilgrims paid obeisance at Kedarnath Dham from May 6 to June 11.

The Uttarakhand government has said that 16,000 devotees can visit Badrinath, 13,000 pilgrims Kedarnath temple, 8,000 Gangotri and 5,000 pilgrims can visit Yamunotri Dham respectively in a day.

Kedarnath temple and Badrinath temple are a part of Char Dhams and is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva in the country. Badarinath is one of the holy shrines for Vaishnavites among the 108 divya desams incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
