Neoen’s managing director in Australia, Louis de Sambucy said the company is “convinced that our ability to combine our assets and our energy management capabilities to create bespoke commercial offers will be a key element of success for our future developments”.

The 412-megawatt Goyder South stage one project involves two parts: an initial 209 MW underpinned by two long-term power sales contracts with the ACT government and retailer Flow Power, and a further 203 MW underpinned by the latest contract with BHP.

The Blyth battery has been developed by Neoen over the past two years and secured planning approval for up to 300 MW of power in April this year.

Jennifer Purdie, the asset president at BHP for Olympic Dam, said the deal “will support BHP on its decarbonisation journey, and provide new firmed renewable energy and increased stability to the South Australian grid”.
