Breaking News : Container vessel capsized at MICT, containers fall into sea

MUNDRA : A major accident took place near Mundra port in Kutch, Gujarat. The incident took place at Mundra Port DP World MICT Terminal. A large vessel capsized in half at a private jetty.

According to reports, MV SEA EXPRESS, Panama Flag, Age: 24 years n LOA 143.5 m arrival draft 8.3 m berthed at MICT 12:38 on 07th Jan 2023.

It is learnt that the Container ship SEA XPRESS lost stability while undergoing cargo operations at MICT Terminal, on Jan 7. The ship listed portside, then starboard side, and finally, rested on pier by starboard. The ship arrived at Mundra on Jan 6, from UAE.

Vessel list starboard side of around 70 degrees and 20 units fallen into sea and floating in channel, mooring rope already broken and they r trying to recovering by doing blasting.

Understand the incident caused due to error in calculation of blasting parameters as the vessel is Multi-purpose and ships crane bullied in port side.

Operation and approach Channel movement of all connected terminals MICT, Adani CT2 and T2 has suspended till the recovery of over-boarded units, as informed by sources.

It is being informed that the containers was being loaded and unloaded when the incident took place.
