10 Mbps internet has been fixed from Tk800-1,000, while 20 Mbps is going to cost Tk1,100-1,200
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) on Sunday set a uniform price of Tk500 for 5 megabytes per second (Mbps) of broadband internet a month, to be followed by all internet service providers (ISPs) across the country.
According to the tariff plan, Tk500 will be the maximum charge at union parishad level.
On the other hand, 10 Mbps internet has been fixed from Tk800-1,000 a month, while 20 Mbps is going to cost Tk1,100-1,200 per month.

Brig Gen Md Nasim Parvez, director general of the BTRC, presented the tariff plan as part of the “One Country One Rate” initiative at a program in the capital, where Post and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar inaugurated it.
Nasim Parvez said that it was an ideal opportunity to take broadband internet connection to the union level through Info Sarkar 3 project.
The initiative was also taken to attract foreign investment by eliminating the lack of coordination among ISPs at the local level, as well as protecting the interests of marginal broadband internet subscribers, he also said during his presentation.
The tariff was fixed after a series of meetings with International Terrestrial Cable (ITC), Nationwide Telecommunication Transmission Network (NTTN), and International Internet Gateway (IIG) and the ISPs.

“If implemented, this can enable more online freelancers from almost each household,” said Mustafa Jabbar.
“This is one of the milestones in building a digital Bangladesh. Internet has played the biggest role during Covid-19 pandemic, otherwise we would have collapsed. About 70% of patients took services from doctors from home through the internet during the pandemic,” he added.
Among others, Post and Telecommunications Secretary Md Afzal Hossain, BTRC Chairman Shyam Sunder Sikder, Vice Chairman Subrata Kumar Maitra, ISPAB President Aminul Hakim, BTCL Managing Director Rafiqul Matin, and Fiber at Home Managing Director Moinul Haque Siddiqui were present.
