Senior railway service officer Vivek Kumar Gupta took charge as the new head of India’s Bullet train project on Monday. A statement from National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) said Gupta served as the Principal Executive Director (Gati-Shakti) at the Railway Board.
In his earlier role, Gupta was responsible for the integrated functioning of Civil (Works, Project Monitoring & Station Development), Electrical (RE), Signal & Telecommunication, Traffic, Finance, Planning, and Economic Directorates.
National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) is a Special Purpose Vehicle with equity participation by Central Government through Ministry of Railways and two State Governments of Gujarat and Maharashtra. It is implementing India’s first bullet train project.
NHSRCL also said 28 seismometers will be installed for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor to ensure the safety of passengers and critical infrastructure during earthquakes.
This Early Earthquake Detection System, based on Japanese Shinkansen technology, will detect earthquake-induced tremors through primary waves and enable an automatic power shutdown, the statement said.
Emergency brakes will be activated when the power shutdown is detectedand the trains running in the affected area shall stop, NHSRCL added.
