Careers after 12th are the most important decisions to be taken in life. There are a lot of career options available after class 12, such as engineering, medical, management etc. A student from commerce background can opt for CA and CS courses.

Chartered Accountant, CA and Company Secretary, CS is among the popular options available for commerce students to choose as careers after 12th. Some of the other popular courses are ICWAI, B Com Honours, Taxation & Accounting Honours, Banking and Finance Honours, BBA and BMS.

Despite a difference between the job profiles, most people are often confused between CA and CS. Being one of the most pursued professional careers after 12th, it is essential to understand the difference between the two.

Careers after 12th: Career Options

  1. Chartered Accountant (CA): A CA is a professional who analyzes the Risk Management aspect, maintains accounts, and provides future financial advice to the companies. Chartered Accountancy is accredited by the ICAI, Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.
  2. Company Secretary (CS): A Company Secretary is responsible for completing the company’s tax returns, prepares MOM for the advisory board meetings and ensures all the legal and statutory regulations. The ICSI, Institute of Company Secretaries of India provides professional training for CS.

Candidates with a strong mathematical background can opt for the Chartered Accountant course. However, the one with an inclination towards theory and legal can go for Company Secretary Course.

Eligibility Criteria for CA and CS courses:

  1. CA: Candidates who have qualified for their 12th exams in commerce with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks can apply for the foundation course.
  2. CS: For the foundation course, candidates must have a 12th pass or equivalent certificate from any stream.
