Kochi: Cement prices are soaring in Kerala with an 11 per cent rise within the last year.

The price of a sack of A grade cement, which used to cost Rs 440 in November 2021, has now gone up to Rs 490. The situation has worsened with the latest hike by Rs 15 on November 3.

In the wake of the Russia-Ukraine war, the cement prices had reached Rs 450 in March, earlier this year. The price went down in June, but again rose due to the coal crisis in November.

Reportedly, prices are likely to go up even further. Apparently, cement companies are planning to increase Rs 10-30 per sack by the end of this month.

“The current price hike is unnecessary and we do not support the move,” said Kerala Cement Dealers Association.

Meanwhile, the prices of binding wires have significantly reduced since March this year.
