KOCHI: The ministry of civil aviation has issued a set of guidelines to facilitate the vaccination program in the aviation sector in an efficient manner.
The ministry, which asked the state governments to consider the people working in the civil aviation sector and all related services as a priority group for vaccination, directed airport operators to set up a dedicated vaccination centre at their respective airports.
The ministry advised the states to get their civil aviation personnel administered with the Covid vaccines under the ongoing vaccination programme citing their valuable and essential service during the second wave of the pandemic.
“During the surge of Covid-19, the aviation community has risen to the occasion to provide unhindered service of the movement of people in need and critical medical cargo like vaccines, medicines, oxygen concentrators, etc. Aviation community has worked overtime to ensure unhindered services for movement of people in need and essential cargo. To ensure their safety and to avoid any delays, MoCA has issued enabling guidelines to facilitate their vaccination programme in a fast and efficient manner,” said the ministry.
The guidelines direct airport operators to establish a dedicated vaccination facility to ensure expeditious vaccination for the personnel involved in aviation or related services. It directed airport management to tie-up with public or private agencies for the purpose. The airports have to provide all basic infrastructure and facilities like vaccination counters, waiting area, help desk, ventilations, fans, washrooms, drinking water, etc, with adherence to Covid protocols. The cost per Covid vaccine dose can be decided by the airport operator with the service provider.
The guidelines said that the facilities would be available for the civil aviation personnel and be made available to the family members subsequently. The ministry also said that organizations that have already made arrangements for the vaccination of their employees may “continue to do so”. Many of the airports have already started vaccination programmes for their employees.
“All airport operators are advised to designate a nodal officer and an alternative nodal officer for coordinating the vaccination efforts. The chairman of Airports Authority of India (AAI) will hold regular meetings to review the progress and coordinate with the ministry/DGCA to address issues/challenges. If there is an issue, the ministry would take it up at an appropriate level for smooth supply,” said the ministry.
