CONCOR-NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam to partner on solar projects, Infra News, ET Infra

MUMBAI: State-run Container Corporation of India Ltd (CONCOR) and NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Ltd, a unit of NTPC Ltd, have agreed to collaborate on building solar energy projects at CONCOR’s terminals, the rail hauler said on Thursday, describing it as a “giant leap towards sustainable development”.

The two entities signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday to pursue the plan, it said.

The MoU underscores CONCOR’s commitment to clean and green energy, it said.

“This partnership marks a significant step towards reducing our carbon footprint and embracing eco-friendly practices in the logistics and transportation sector,” CONCOR said.

The MoU with NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam is the latest in a slew of recent initiatives taken by CONCOR to adopt green solutions.

“We deeply care for environmental, social and governance (ESG) now,”, CONCOR Chairman and Managing Director Sanjay Swarup told ET Infra in an interview on 31 October.

In November, CONCOR said it has partnered with Indraprastha Gas Ltd to explore the possibility of setting up LNG/LCNG infrastructure at CONCOR’s terminals.

Earlier, CONCOR ordered 100 LNG trucks to be used in first mile, last mile (FMLM) movements.

Swarup said that CONCOR has started talks with electric vehicle makers.

“We are in talks with 1-2 electric vehicle makers because EV is now the focus. In the passenger segment, EV has come but in freight it has not come. So, we are in talks with them, once it is developed, then we will dispatch by EV also for short distances or within our terminals. We will go completely green in another 5-6 years,” Swarup said.

“We will also procure 100 more LNG trucks after seeing the commercial performance, because we believe in green transport. 98 percent of our movement is through rail and road is very less, but whatever road is there we will do it with LNG and electric vehicles,” Swarup added.
