MUMBAI: The total cost of the Versova-Dahisar Project now stands at Rs 35,955 crore, said BMC commissioner in the budget speech. However, when tenders for the project were floated in August last year, the cost was pegged at Rs 16,621 crore. Officials have clarified that there is no rise in price and when the tenders were floated, the cost did not involve GST and several other ancillary expenses which have been now included in the cost specified in the budget speech.
The alignment of this project stretches from Versova Interchange to Dahisar Interchange of Mumbai Coastal Road Project. Also, an elevated GMLR connector is proposed from the Mindspace Malad Junction on Coastal Road to the starting point of GMLR in Goregaon East. This will connect the southern tip and western suburbs of Mumbai with Mulund and Thane.
It is being developed on a design and build basis. Since, this proposed project has long length traversing through different terrains like mangroves and creek areas and crossing metro depot, and includes various different components requiring specialised expertise, the project is divided into 6 packages.
“It will help in reducing traffic congestion in Mumbai and providing pollution-free travelling to commuters,” said the BMC chief. tnn
